Summer Reading Challenge
This Thursday marks the start of Hume Anglican Grammar’s inaugural Summer Reading Challenge. Reading over the summer break is critical for students to retain knowledge and skills learned in the previous school year. By reading over summer, students also grow in knowledge and critical thinking skills for the coming year. Summer reading is not only fun and relaxing; it is a crucial requirement to help students stay on track for their entire educational career – and beyond!
Hume Anglican Grammar students have expressed their excitement to head to their local libraries and pick up a stack of books to get them started for the challenge:
- Prep to Year 2 students must complete twelve fun reading challenges and have them signed off by their parents. These challenges include sitting under the shade of a tree and reading a book, talking to a friend about their favourite books and reading to a pet or a soft toy. They also need to log all the books they read over the break.
- Year 3 - 6 students must send three complete thoughts on each book they read in the holidays to [email protected]
- Secondary students must commit to reading for three hours a week and have it signed off by their adults at home.
The stakes are high: there are seven $100 book vouchers to be won! All students who participate will have their name in the draw to win. The winner will be announced at assembly at the beginning of Term 1. So, make a beeline for the Library at the beginning of the summer break!
We look forward to hearing about the literary adventures that ensue from the Summer Reading Challenge. Happy reading!
