Student Wellbeing

It’s hard to believe we are almost at the end of our second week of Term 1. It has been wonderful seeing students commence the 2022 school year with enthusiasm and renewed rigour for learning. At Hume Anglican Grammar, the 2022 Student Wellbeing Leadership Team is focused in ensuring every student Prep to Year 12 is supported through school wide programs, targeted interventions and support services across the Mt Ridley, Donnybrook and Kalkallo campuses.

Family support

With all the changes occurring at the moment, it is important parents’ check in with their children to see how they are adjusting to new routines, increased workload and how they’re navigating the complex world of peer relationships. School TV has a Primary and Secondary Wellbeing checklist parents can access if they have concerns about their child’s wellbeing, this can be accessed through the Hume Anglican Grammar website SPECIAL REPORTS | Hume Anglican Grammar (schooltv.me)

Safer Internet Day

On Tuesday, 8 February, Hume Anglican Grammar joined the global initiative of Safer Internet Day which brings families, schools, organisations and governments from 170 countries together to raise awareness about online safety. As a School, we can all help to make life online enjoyable by being kind and respectful to each other.

On Tuesday, Primary school students Years 3 – 6 at Donnybrook and Mt Ridley participated in the webinar 'Be an eSafe kid: Your voice counts'. Secondary school students participated in an activity during Homeroom which raised awareness of playing it fair online and provided students with a number of strategies to be safe, be responsible and kind online.

Parents were involved in the day by participating in the online webinar ‘Helping Kids Thrive Online’ facilitated by the eSafety Commissioner.

One of the ways to stay safe online at home is to create a family tech agreement. which is a set of rules about the use of electronic devices at home. The safety website has agreements for children in the primary years which can be accessed here Family tech agreement | eSafety Commissioner.

For Secondary school parents, ReachOut Parents has a guide for parents who are worried about who their teen is speaking to online Should I be worried my teen is making friends online? - ReachOut Parents. The guide also has information about how to encourage positive online behaviour for adolescents, and tips for how to respect your teen’s privacy online.

Wellbeing check-in

The School will be doing a wellbeing check-in this week for all students Years  3 - 12 via Skodel to see how they are feeling after two weeks of school.

Skodel is an online platform which allows the school to track and monitor mood and student wellbeing. We will be doing regular check-ins for Year 3 – 12 this term with the aim of extending the testing to Year 2 in Term 2.

If you have any concerns about your child participating in the Skodel check-ins, please speak to their Year Level Coordinator or Wellbeing Leader.
