Forensic Excursion: Note Printing Australia in Craigieburn

Note Printing Australia or (NPA), is involved in the high production of both passports and banknotes. It aims to strike a balance between design and security and guides customers through multiple security platforms. Recently, NPA began a pilot educational program and Hume Anglican Grammar Forensic students, were lucky enough to be one of the first schools to be involved in this program. Below is some of the feedback from the students who attended.

On the 23 May 2022, our class were lucky enough to visit Note Printing Australia. What an experience it was! From viewing old machines that used to print past banknotes, to seeing how they embed security features into current banknotes. It was a very informative and engaging excursion and tied in well with our Forgery unit. - Eamon 9C

During our trip to Note Printing Australia, we learnt about different career paths that relate to the design, technology, printing and business settlements that contribute to the Australian currency that we use on our day-to-day basis. Participating in an engaging activity with one of the many kind workers at the print centre, we also learnt about counterfeit notes that are circulated, and how these bank notes are analysed – getting to check some ourselves! Seeing the recycling that occurred (linked to the history behind our nation’s change from paper to polymer notes), the printing in process, and the ‘Make your own bank note’ activity, were all significant when discussing our favourite parts of the trip. – Athena 9D
