Last week, students of Media in Years 10 and 11 travelled into Melbourne’s CBD to be inspired by Victoria’s top-performing Media students as part of the 2020 VCE ‘Season of Excellence’.
At the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), students settled in for a viewing of ‘Top Screen’, where there was an impressive range of animation and live-action films made by Year 12 students in 2020. This was followed by a panel discussion with some of the student filmmakers, who shared their tips on approaching VCE Media.
After lunch, students ventured to Melbourne Museum for ‘Top Designs’, where further works in photography and print were on display. Here, students also had the opportunity to view complete folios, setting the standard and expectations for their own works!
Below are some student reflections:
“I thoroughly enjoyed the Top Screen and Design Exhibitions. It not only allowed me to view a range of different media products, but also works from other Art and Design subjects. The work was also accompanied by the folios of past VCE students; this was a helpful feature as it gave me inspiration that I can also incorporate in my own media products.” - Selin, Year 11
“The excursion was a great experience to have been on. To learn and understand what is expected and needed for our Year 12 portfolio was appreciated and is helpful in guiding me in this two-year VCE journey.” - Keegan, Year 11
“Visiting Top Screens helped us understand what areas of Media we can go into for a career. It showed us how making media products can be more accessible and easier than it looks. It also helped us understand what sort of media we can complete our own works in.” - Grace, Year 10
