On Thursday, 4 March, the Year 2 Donnybrook students took part in a the “Crazy Chemical” Incursion to reflect on our first Unit of Inquiry. It was all about materials and chemical reactions. Students were placed into different groups of investigations.

The ‘wet group’ is where the students played with materials such as solids and liquids. They were engaged in experiments such as bicarb and vinegar to make rockets, slime created out of seaweed and a water vortex.

The ‘investigations group’ were provided with materials such as magnetic items, a VR headset and sun printing.

As a whole group, the students participated in mixing vinegar, soap, food colouring and bicarb where they observed the soapy reaction caused by the combination of solids and liquids.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this incursion and were buzzing with excitement.

“I loved the VR headset because it showed us what is in space.” Manreet

“The VR was my favourite!” Blake

“The rockets were my favourite because the rocket went above and exploded.” Guntaas
