I have decided to focus my Newsletter piece this week on the importance of maintaining high standards. High standards provide a clear set of expectations regarding behaviour, approach to work, the quality of our interactions with others and adherence to rules and regulations. Maintaining high standards engenders within each of us a sense of pride and ownership in all that we do. It gives all of us a sense of purpose that insisting upon high standards enriches our wonderful and diverse community. Insisting upon high standards also promotes excellence and aspiration.

At Hume Anglican Grammar the highest standards are always maintained. This includes our expectations and high standards about wearing the school uniform as well as the personal appearance of out students. Importantly, we also maintain the standard that all within our community are respectful to each other and that our differences are recognised and celebrated.

We also have very high standards in terms of student wellbeing and safety as well as the highest of academic standards and expectations. Along with this, we provide our students with excellent opportunities to take part in an extensive Co-curricular program that allows them to try out new things and pursue their talents and interests outside the classroom. Encouraging students to partake in the rich co-curricular life of our school is also part of maintaining the highest standards by challenging students to pursue their passions and interests and try new things.

I think it is fair to say that maintaining our high standards is a communal effort. We all understand and appreciate the challenges in always maintaining the highest of standards in all that we do. We also recognise that the role of parents in assisting in the maintenance of high standards cannot be underestimated. Parents reinforce high standards every time they ensure their son or daughter comes to school on time, in correct uniform and neatly groomed. Parents also assist in the maintenance of high standards by supporting out behaviour management processes and procedures and reinforcing the importance of being respectful in our interactions with others.

Upholding and maintaining high standards is all our responsibility and I am proud to be part of a rich and diverse learning community that accepts and embraces the highest of standards. May it continue forever.
