Our three libraries located at each campus are managed by a team of professionals who provide quality resources and services. We have two teacher librarians, two library technicians and three library assistants who work together to deliver a library program to primary students and a wide reading program to secondary students in Years 7 to Year 9. Our library programs teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively, enabling them to think critically and make informed decisions. Reading for pleasure is constantly promoted as trained library staff nurture each students journey to becoming lifelong readers. 

The library has created a 3D model of an Australian Bowerbird habitat for the National Simultaneous Storytime book called Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. Students collected blue recycled objects to place inside, made origami birds and participated in a scavenger hunt. Term 2 students studied a unit on Indigenous storytelling and later met Elder, Uncle Ron Murray to ask further questions enriching their research unit. Local author and illustrator Heidi McKinnon passed on her writing techniques which coincided with a study of the shortlisted books for this year Children’s Book Council of Australia awards. Other activities include the Premier’s Reading Challenge, lunch time book club, Judging the Children’s Book Council of Australia awards, writing competitions, book fairs and a celebration of Book Week. 

Why Libraries Are Important
School libraries serve as dynamic learning environments that enhance the curriculum. They provide access to a wealth of books, reference resources, and digital content that support classroom instruction and inspire students to explore new subjects. Library builds social skills as students learn to value and view critically their own perspectives and practices of others. These skills are enhanced from exploring and expanding their understanding of the intercultural worlds around us. Library strengthens the ability to think ethically as we move further towards a world of AI and the use of personal data.

Australian School Library Day Wednesday, 21 August 
Reading for pleasure underpins each student’s motivation to read and our dedicated staff source the right books whilst building a space for reading. As 2024 Book Week arrives a way of celebrating school library staff and the benefits of a well-resourced library a national ‘Australian School Library Day’ sits in the middle. A day to celebrate how we provide information literacy to help the future of our students. At recess and lunch students will be invited to create poems using book titles from the library then displayed for others to enjoy.
