Dear Friends and Families,
‘So the son set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him.’ [Luke 15:20].
This week in Secondary school chapel, we are looking at probably the most well-known of Jesus’ parables, which is the story of the Lost (Prodigal) Son from Luke 15. Although the son in question decides to demand access to his father’s inheritance early and then spends it all on wild living, instead of being excluded from the wider family, the story reveals the beautiful picture of the father waiting for his son to return, welcoming him with open arms.
The parable, of course, reveals something of the character of God. All of us, regardless of our background or upbringing, have wandered away from him, through either our words, thoughts and deeds.
However, like the father in the parable, the current season of Lent reminds us that God indeed so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him, will not perish, but have eternal life [John 3:16].
God is so longing to welcome us all back home!

Prayer for the week
Lord God, our Redeemer,
who heard the cry of your people
and sent your servant Moses to lead them out of slavery:
free us from the tyranny of sin and death
and, by the leading of your Spirit,
bring us to our promised land;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
