On 5 October, the Kalkallo Italian Choir graced the stage at the Melbourne Italian Festa 2024.
Our students, along with choirs from 12 other Victorian schools, proudly participated in the inaugural edition of the Zecchino d’Oro singing contest in Melbourne, organised by the Italian Assistance Association, CO.AS.IT.
The Zecchino d’Oro, held annually since 1959, showcases ten songs designed for a young audience, performed by children aged 3 to 12, and supported by the esteemed Coro dell’Antoniano from Bologna, Italy. Unlike conventional talent shows, this contest highlights the significance of the song’s composition and its educational value.
For Italians, the Zecchino d'Oro is more than just a music festival, it serves as a timeless bridge connecting generations, celebrating the unity of Italy’s diverse regions. It embodies the universal joy of childhood through music, symbolising a cherished piece of Italian heritage that transcends borders. By bringing the Zecchino d’Oro to Australia, CO.AS.IT. aimed not only to share music but also to extend a vital cultural tradition that has bonded Italian families for decades.
It was heartwarming to see our choir students so enthusiastic about participating in such a prestigious event at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. They demonstrated our school’s core values of Resilience, Excellence, and Christianity through their dedication in rehearsals, their determination to perform at their best, and their remarkable sense of community and togetherness.
We look forward to doing it all again next year!
