The annual Premier’s VCE Awards celebrates the outstanding academic achievements of students in the state. This year, a total of 310 students were honoured at the prestigious award ceremony held on Wednesday, 17 July.
We are thrilled to share that Hume Anglican Grammar Year 12 student and School Captain, Meron Nona, was invited to attend the award ceremony after achieving a perfect score of 50 in Biology while studying Units 3 and 4 as an accelerated subject in Year 11. His exceptional achievement marks the second consecutive year that a student from the school has received a 50 and a Premier’s VCE Award. Last year, School Vice-captain, Saatvik Seghal was acknowledged for his dedication after he received a score of 50 for Systems Engineering as a Year 11 student also.
Meron expressed his delight, saying, "I feel extremely pleased and proud of this achievement! Until now, I remember the shock and amazement I felt seeing my score for the first time. It was amazing to attend the ceremony and seeing all that VCAA does to acknowledge the hard work and efforts of students. I loved Biology last year, so it was awesome to have achieved such a great score in it!"
Reflecting on the challenges he faced, Meron acknowledged the support of his teachers, especially his Biology teacher, Ms Mathew, who provided valuable assistance and motivation. He also expressed gratitude to his family for their unwavering support throughout his academic journey. Looking toward the future, Meron shared his aspiration to pursue a career in medicine. He emphasised his passion for science, particularly biology, and his desire to further explore the intricacies of the human body. Meron hopes to become a doctor to apply his knowledge and skills in helping patients achieve optimal health and wellness. His dedication and enthusiasm serve as an inspiration to fellow students and a testament to Hume Anglican Grammar’s commitment to academic excellence.
