GaGa Pit

Standing in the pickup zone on the first day back after the mid-year break greeting parents and students as they arrived at school was a wonderfully rewarding experience.

The smiles on the student’s faces said it all. They were genuinely happy to be back at school to experience all the things school has to offer.

During the break, a new play opportunity was installed in the Mt Ridley Primary school. Some of you may be familiar with a GaGa Pit. We first came across one of these at the Year 3 Anglesea YMCA camp and witnessed first-hand how much our students loved the game. After much planning and discussions, we found the ideal location for the installation, and I’m pleased to announce that we now have our very own GaGa pit. In a nutshell, players start inside the pit touching the sides. One player throws a ball up into the air. Players yell “Ga” for the first 2 bounces and “Go” on the third to begin the game (“Ga-Ga-Go”) The aim of the game is to eliminate other players by hitting them below the knee with the ball. Players hit the ball with an open hand or closed fist while attempting to avoid being struck by the ball. Clear as mud! Trust me, they love it!

Mr Whyte will spend part of each Physical Education lesson over the next couple of weeks familiarising our students with the game, the skills needed to be successful and the rules. We look forward to many happy hours of our students keeping active.
