Following a visit from Seeing Eye Dogs at the end of June, a small group of Community Crusaders were invited to spend a day volunteering in the kennels at the Seeing Eye Dogs Head Office in Kensington.
This was an invaluable experience for a select group of Community Crusaders who have demonstrated their commitment to community service throughout the year. This select group of VCE students were able to gain valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of the kennels, whilst also gaining work experience that directly related to their desired pathways in either veterinary science or allied health.
During the visit, students enjoyed the hands-on experience of working as kennel volunteers. Students assisted with the day-to-day operations the kennels by cleaning, preparing dog treats, taking part in desensitisation training and spending one-on-one time with the dogs to assist with their socialisation.
The Community Crusaders are looking forward to developing a long-term partnership with Seeing Eye Dogs, starting with our upcoming project – an old linen/towel collection early in Term 4.
