The boys played brilliantly, and it was fantastic to watch them in their element. I was lucky enough to also witness the best goal in hockey I’d ever seen from Harbariq Singh, an opinion also shared with the tournament organisers. As the Coach/Team Manager, I would like to thank the students for their exemplar behaviour, modesty and sportsmanship on the day. The boys were obviously extremely happy to win the tournament and have earned the title of the best Intermediate School Hockey Team in Victoria. Thank you to Joban Rana, our student coach, for assisting on the day. Please see below a reflection of the day from the team captain, Avraj Johal.
On Tuesday 8 November, the Intermediate Boys Hockey team went out to McIvor Reserve, Fogarty Ave, Yarraville with Mrs Farrugia. We started of our day with a 9 - 0 win against Orbost SC where we completely dominated the whole game. Our confidence levels were high as we headed into our second game against Ballarat HS. Once again, we outplayed them as we comfortably won 5 - 0. As we headed into our final group game against Melbourne HS, we all got a bit tired as at half time we were getting pressed and dominated, despite a 1 - 0 lead. We eventually won the game 5 - 1 conceding our only goal of the whole day. We entered the final feeling confident, and we played an exceptional first half where we scored three goals, putting Mount Waverly SS under pressure. The game was eventually handed to us as bad weather forced Mount Waverly SS to forfeit and crown us State Champions.
