AI Impact

On Friday, 21 June a group of Year 10 students attended the Local Parliamentary Convention, hosted by Lalor Secondary College at Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre. The Convention asked students to engage in discussions and debates on the topic, 'AI: Friend or Foe?'

One of the highlights of the Convention was a plebiscite on the topic, with the majority of participants expressing a negative view of AI. The Convention also provided an excellent opportunity for students to delve into civic challenges and gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in debating and passing legislation for today's society.

The event also featured guest speakers including the Honourable Andrew Giles, MP, and Dr James Curran, CEO of the Grok Academy.

Throughout the day, our students actively discussed and debated with peers from various other schools. This experience enabled them to employ critical thinking and civic engagement skills, contributing to their overall learning in Politics, Legal Studies, and Year 10 Global and Domestic Law and Order. It was particularly beneficial for students considering Politics and Legal Studies for further study in Year 11.
