Book Week - Mt Ridley
Since 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia has connected children with quality literature. During Book Week, the aim is to celebrate Australian children’s authors and illustrators. Each year a theme is chosen, with this year's theme being ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.’
Literature is an important part of the English curriculum and throughout a child’s primary experience, they are exposed to and engage with a range of different texts. They listen to, read, view and interpret literature, which includes Aboriginal stories, picture books, chapter books, rhyming verse, poetry and non-fiction.
This year, the children were able to view videos made by two Year 6 students, Neal Rao and Joshua Costanzo who shared their experiences as writers. This was extremely beneficial and gave some wonderful advice to all the budding writers out there.
As part of our Book Week celebrations, students have also been asked to consider creating a special ‘book nook’ for reading at home and to write and publish a story. There has also been a ‘Can you guess the book?’ activity and a book scavenger hunt.
The week was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and we look forward to dressing up as book characters when we return to school.
