2024 Student Leaders

In this edition of Reflections, we introduce you to Simran, currently in Year 12 at our Mt Ridley campus and, is one of our 2024 School Vice-captains.

Tell us a little bit about your journey in Secondary school?
My journey at Hume began when I was just an awkward and shy Year 7 student, scared about the challenges that would lie ahead. However, throughout the years with the encouragement of my teachers and peers, I took part in leadership roles, the Galway Debating team, Open Days and even our recently founded Community Crusaders! My involvement in all these initiatives is what has shaped me into the confident person I am today and given me the opportunity to make friends I will certainly be keeping even after secondary school!

What is your favourite subject and why?
My favourite subject would certainly be Psychology! I love delving into the complexities of the human brain and having a unique insight about why people act in certain ways! One aspect of the VCE Psychology course I particularly appreciate is how relevant the content is to me as a student. Throughout my VCE journey, I have learnt about stress, memory, learning and the psychology behind discrimination. All topics that have important implications in my life. If you’re anything like me and enjoy exploring different models regarding the mental processes that underpin you as a human being, I highly encourage you to pick Psychology as a VCE subject!

What is your fondest memory so far at Hume Anglican Grammar?
My fondest school memory would have to be the time Ms Mathew rewarded us with spiders (ice cream + soft drink, not the scary 8-legged creature) for our efforts in Year 12 Biology.

How has your time at Hume Anglican Grammar influenced your future pathway decisions?
Hume Anglican Grammar has helped me forge my passion for science. Our awesome science faculty works tirelessly to teach us concepts in a way that is interactive and involves lots of fun practical investigations! It is this dedication that has made me so interested about the science behind chemical reactions and how the body works. This is why in the future I would love to pursue something in the field of healthcare or mental health.

What would you like to do or study once you graduate from Hume Anglican Grammar?
Once I graduate from Hume Anglican Grammar, I am hoping to pursue either medicine or a course in psychology.

Fast Four:

If your friends could describe you in one word, what would it be
Dynamic.

What is your favourite movie?
I don’t really watch many movies as I prefer to watch shows particularly rom coms and sit coms! My top 4 would be Brooklyn Nine-Nine, How I Met Your Mother, Crash Landing on You and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
This might sound a bit odd, but I would love to have the power to make junk food healthy! It would be awesome to eat all my favourite foods all the time guilt-free!

What's your go-to comfort food when you need a pick-me-up during exam season?
Warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
