Any Good Ideas for an Easter Message?

Millions across the world will next weekend commemorate Easter, which may be described as the most important time in the Christian calendar. From Ash Wednesday to Pentecost, we acknowledge, commemorate and celebrate the events of Jesus Christ.

Many in the School community will visit their local Church and join with family and friends for Easter services, and across Christian churches we will listen to the wise words from the Minister.

At many times throughout the year, the Vicar may elect to deliver a sermon based upon a topic of choice, but on others the theme will be very much fixed on a particular time or event connected to the Christian calendar - Easter being one.

Having listened and enjoyed many dozens of Easter messages, I sometimes wonder whether Parish Priests are challenged having to devise a fresh approach each year. Certainly, there must be a danger of becoming repetitive and not providing an interesting homily. Our religious leaders wish to inspire, they want to provide their parishioners with a fresh perspective, offer insight and fill them with renewed energy and passion in their faith.

But how do you always come up with something new?

Well, believe it not, it’s possible through the internet to find, read and hear hundreds (thousands!) of sermons given by Ministers from all over the world. It is an intriguing search as you discover sermons with eye catching and ‘zany’ titles. I think the titles themselves create interest and raise curiosity. On the website www.preaching.com, you will find sermons entitled; “What Starbucks, Harry and You All Have in Common”, “What if Easter Didn’t Exist?” and a play on words with “The Rock that Rolled”. Please spend some browsing, I hope you will be pleasantly surprised.

Wherever you may be over Easter, or however you may celebrate it, please enjoy with your loved ones. I wish you a blessed break and look forward to your return in 2 weeks’ time.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
