What a busy few weeks in Year 4! We have been having a great time with learning new topics, celebrating Founders' Day and of course, the highlight of the year, Year 4 camp to Anglesea.
As part of our inquiry learning, we have discovered what life was like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples before the arrival of the Europeans. We learned why Europeans settled in Australia and the nature and consequence of contact between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and early traders, explorers and settlers. We produced replicas of Aboriginal shelters made from natural resources and materials and tested them against wind and rain to see how they would withstand weather conditions.
Founders' Day was a spectacular occasion last week. We celebrated with a momentous assembly, delicious cupcakes and a fantastic talent show. We enjoyed watching our friends perform at lunchtime.
The camp was a real adventure! The highlights from the camp were skateboarding, archery, the giant swing and having some downtime in our cabins. It was a very busy and tiring three days as we discovered new skills and confidence. We overcame some of our fears and became more resilient. It was a big learning curve but an opportunity that we all took on board.
“It was a great experience” mentioned Martin.
“We learned to be independent without our parents” stated Michelle and Aarav.
“We faced our fears and enjoyed socialising and spending time with our friends” quoted Siyanna and Ronav.
