Mother's Day

On Wednesday, 8 May the Primary school celebrated a memorable Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day is a highly anticipated event on the school calendar, this year being no exception. We had over 500 RSVPs and the Sports Centre was a sea of colour with all our mums filling the grandstand, proudly holding their single stem rose they received upon arrival. Mums were treated to an action-packed assembly with student performances, pre-recorded clips, a whole school song especially for our mums, a picture story book shared by Mr Sweeney and the beautiful words shared by grandmothers about their daughters and the heartfelt address from Monica, the mother of Nikki in Year 6. Several of our Prep students shared their thoughts about what they would do if they were a mum. One in particular stood out to me when Thomas casually stated that if he was a mum, he would make dad do all of the work. Following the assembly, a lovely morning was had by all, as mums and their children completed a range of activities in classrooms before a beautiful, shared morning tea for mums to catch up.

In addition to our Mother’s Day morning, our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) worked tirelessly to plan and set up our Mother’s Day stall. On Friday, 10 May all Primary classes visited the PFA’s stall to buy a gift for their mum or special friend. It was wonderful watching the students deliberate in an attempt to find the perfect gift. Numerous PFA volunteers gave their time to serve students and help them choose a gift. The work that our PFA do throughout the year goes largely un-noticed, but one can does not underestimate the difference that they make to our community. A heart felt thank you and appreciation to our PFA on behalf of our students, parents and staff.
