Italian Incursion - Donnybrook

On Friday, 5 August Year 3 - 6 students attended an Italian performance named Ciao Italy. The students had a great time learning about the performer’s parents’ immigration story. Students learned new Italian vocabulary and were immersed in the Italian culture. Below is a reflection on the event.

On Friday, 5 August the Year 3s and 4s excitedly made their way to the Italian incursion. Luckily, we found front row seats close to the man named ‘Mr Fagiolo’. Once the other classes came in, Mr  Fagiolo started the show. He began by playing a video about how his parents immigrated from Italy to Australia following World War Two. He taught us Italian words with enthusiasm and humour. After the video he asked for some volunteers from the audience to re-enact his family’s story. I excitedly raised my hand and was selected to be his Papa (Dad). The props I had to put on were hilarious and included fake sausages and a curly wig. Mamma Mia! (My goodness!). I re-enacted a hilarious story about Mr Fagiolo’s dad and an Australian man. It was so much fun. Overall, we really want to do the incursion again and it was great how we could make links to our parents’ immigration experience. - Neil and Armaan 4Y
